Happy Wednesday from AI Smart!

“The collaboration with others learning AI at the same time was invaluable. Discovering which tools work specifically for my business—Jasper has changed my life immensely. We probably save 15 to 17 hours a week with Jasper. Having the course as a resource, being able to ask questions and get quick answers, often with examples, has been wonderful.” -Jenna

Jenna’s journey underscores the practical, time-saving applications and the supportive learning environment you can expect.

Hello AI Enthusiasts! Ready to elevate your skills? Our next Applied AI course kicks off this week, and it’s the perfect opportunity to take your understanding of AI to the next level. This immersive 10-week experience has been hailed by past participants as “life-changing,” “transformative,” and “eye-opening.” But don’t just take our word for it!

Kate shared, “I think my favorite part of the course has been learning iterating—the process and understanding, generative AI is really about the process as opposed to just the initial prompt. Gamma is a game-changer and being introduced to You.com was really a big deal.” Her experience highlights the depth of learning and the introduction to revolutionary platforms that this course provides.

This Week’s Insights

Will you let AI Control Your Computer?! 🤖

Anthropic has introduced the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model, featuring an innovative “computer use” capability that allows AI to control a computer similarly to a human, managing the screen, cursor, and text input. This feature, currently in public beta, aims to enhance productivity by providing developers with a direct AI interaction experience. While other tech giants have similar capabilities, Anthropic’s approach of enabling AI to perform tasks directly on the computer screen is pioneering.

Despite being experimental, this feature is intended to evolve quickly with developer feedback. However, allowing AI like Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet to control computers similarly to humans poses significant security and privacy risks that may outweigh its potential benefits. This is something I haven’t tried yet because I am a bit concerned about what it would have access to. I might try it on a “clean” computer though. Would you???

New Animation Release! 🧚‍♀️

Runway has unveiled Act-One, a groundbreaking tool designed to completely change how artists approach character animation. With the power of Gen-3 Alpha, Act-One allows for the creation of expressive character performances using straightforward video and voice inputs. This tool simplifies the traditionally time intensive process of facial animation, which often involves a labyrinth of motion capture equipment and manual rigging. Instead, Act-One lets artists focus on capturing the raw emotion and nuance of an actor’s performance, bringing a new level of authenticity and expressiveness to animated content.

What sets Act-One apart is its ability to produce cinematic-quality animations that remain consistent across different camera angles, ensuring high-fidelity face animations and genuine character expression. This means creators can craft more believable and emotionally resonant characters without being bogged down by technical hurdles.

Major GenAI Updates in Adobe 🤖🧑‍🎨

Adobe Max 2024 introduced a series of groundbreaking updates, with the spotlight on its first generative AI video model in Premiere Pro, setting a new benchmark in creative technology. This innovation is complemented by significant enhancements to Creative Cloud apps such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, alongside a substantial overhaul of the Frame.io cloud collaboration platform. These advancements are designed to boost productivity for creative professionals, introducing tools like “Project Turntable” that allow rotation of 2D art as if it were 3D, and a photo mashup tool for effortless blending of images. Moreover, the ‘Know How’ tool plays a crucial role in safeguarding artists’ work and countering misinformation by ensuring accurate content attribution.

Meta Blocks Celeb-Bait Scam Ads 🦸👮

Meta is stepping up its game against fraudulent ads with a new facial recognition test targeting ‘celeb-bait’ scams. This initiative aims to block deceptive ads using celebrity images to trick users on Facebook and Instagram. By comparing faces in suspicious ads with the public figures’ profile pictures, Meta hopes to swiftly identify and remove these scams. These tests, which have shown promising results with a select group of celebrities, are part of Meta’s broader strategy to enhance its anti-fraud measures. The move could significantly improve the efficiency of detecting and enforcing against scams, offering a safer user experience without misusing facial data.

Beyond ad scams, Meta is also exploring facial recognition for smoother account recovery. They’re testing a video selfie approach to verify identities, making it easier to regain access to hacked accounts. This method mirrors tech like Apple’s Face ID, but with the added assurance of secure data handling. Though not yet available in the UK or EU due to strict data regulations, these tests could redefine digital identity verification. Meta’s efforts to engage with regulators suggest a future where this could expand globally.

Medication Errors in Hospitals Reduced 🚑💊

In the bustling environment of operating rooms and emergency units, even seasoned medical professionals can mistakenly swap syringes and vials, risking patient safety with medication errors. Enter a groundbreaking wearable camera system developed by the University of Washington that harnesses artificial intelligence to act as an extra pair of digital eyes, meticulously checking medications to prevent these dangerous mix-ups. Impressively, this technology boasts a high accuracy with 99.6% sensitivity and 98.8% specificity in identifying vial errors. This is a significant breakthrough, given that preventable medication errors affect millions annually and cost billions. By augmenting human capabilities with AI, the potential for reducing these errors significantly boosts healthcare productivity and patient safety. ERs and hospitals around the world have been testing out AI for better patient care with astounding results.
