Ride Like A Penguin: Vision

social media, salty waffle, social media faith, social media faith based organizations, social media church, social media share, social media community, social media bookLast week I shared my values in this article after reading the first chapter in the book Ride Like a Penguin by Nicole Donnelly. Each week I will be going over one chapter at a time until we get through the 15 chapter book.
.
Chapter 2 is all about Your Vision.
.
1) An Overview of the Chapter: “Your Vision is your primary motivator in achieving what you want. Identify what you want, define it, and share it with others. When you know what your vision is, you know what you want for your future.”

“What is your dream for the future? What does it look like? What does it feel like? Can you smell it? Taste it? Touch it?”

The point here is that by establishing your vision, you can give your business [or career, or life] the freedom it needs to move forward continually toward a clear dream.”

“It’s absolutely crucial that you take these first steps. By creating a vision of what you want, you rise above wondering about the “What ifs” and into a place of action. You are no longer paralyzed by your own analysis of your situation – you literally have your ideas in front of you.”

“When you truly love what you’re doing, you have to be willing to take a loss for it – to sacrifice a little bit of personal comfort for your dreams.”

“…having the vision was the “carrot on the stick.” Having a clear vision of what you want to accomplish can be your single greatest motivator.”

2) Reflection & Application

In the book, Nicole has us create a vision board. A vision board is created by doing the following:

  1. Gather inspirational items (magazine pages, pictures, words, etc). “A vision board will contain everything you want your life or business to be like.”
  2. Apply the items to a paper, or wall, or whatever you wish.
  3. “Stand back and look at the vision you’ve created. When you create something that reminds you of your dreams for the future… you are giving yourself the tool that will move you toward realizing your own personal vision of what you want.”

in·spi·ra·tion:

  1. The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, esp. to do something creative: “flashes of inspiration”.
  2. The quality of having been so stimulated, esp. when evident in something: “a moment ofinspiration in an otherwise dull display”.

Discussion Questions:
1. What does your vision board look like?
2. What is your vision?
