On this very compassionate holiday I want to say, “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!” Mothers tend to be lavished with presents and special attention from their families, friends and loved ones, but it shouldn’t take a holiday to do this.
I learned at a very young age how special my mom is and how fortunate I am to have her in my life when she survived breast cancer. My dad invested a tremendous amount of time conducting research and took her up and down the state of California, seeking the best doctors to treat her. Seeing her in and out of the hospital for a quadrantectomy procedure, undergoing several rounds of chemo and radiation, watching her wake up in the morning with clumps of hair on her pillow, having to shave her head as a result, and so much more aren’t things most 10 year old’s get to experience. But through it all, she had the BEST attitude, sense of humor, and was never scared! I admired her strength and tenacity to keep pushing forward and not let the Big “C” beat her. She’s been my heroine since.
She had to take for 5 years to reduce the risk of redeveloping breast cancer and it worked. Tamoxifine kept the breast cancer away BUT her body reacted with a serious side effect and she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. I was away at college and it broke my heart when I got the call. How could this be? Her poor body had already been through so much, now cancer a second time.
Once again, she powered through and beat the Big “C.” WHAT A TROOPER! You can see why she’s always been an inspiration and why I’ve always been especially close to her. How cool to have this powerhouse woman as MY MOM! She’s always there to listen to me babble, guide me, and give priceless advice. She has been a tremendous help since the recent launch of my Internet Marketing Company and I’m honored to call her my Momager! She’s a seasoned business woman who knows how to be rational with me, calm me down, bring me back down to earth, and put me in check when needed. I share big wins with her and I never have to worry about her “selling me out” like Kris Jenner has done to her daughters, lol – oops, sorry Kardashian’s! (Btw, my mom loves the Kardashians. Plus I had to lighten the mood a bit.) Mom totally keeps it real and from the stories I hear she used to be big pimpin’! I guess that explains a lot!
A two-time cancer survivor, one of my best friends, and the most awesome Momager I could ever ask for. I love you so much, Mom! Not just on Mother’s Day but every day. I hope I can be half the woman you are when I grow up!
