Inception: A Simple Reminder from A Movie That Will Bend Your Mind

“What’s the most resilient parasite? An idea. A single idea from the human mind can build cities, an idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules.”

Inception reminded me why entrepreneurship is so exciting a place. The quote says it all. Ideas change the world.

Once upon a time, everything that we know and love, and with which we use to get us through our lives, started as an idea in someone’s head. Scientific breakthroughs, inventions, revolutions—all of them fueled by the simple, unrelenting belief in an idea. Like it says, an idea can build cities, an idea can rewrite the rules.

We live in a time where the rules are being rewritten all the time. Facebook and Twitter have changed the way we live our lives just in the last few years, and the internet as whole has changed the nature of our entire existence. Everything is moving insanely fast and the next game changer has already latched onto someone’s mind.

As people, we live in a world that is defined by the most powerful and well constructed ideas. In other words, entrepreneurs define the world.

And please, if the prospect of changing the world doesn’t excite you, check your pulse.

Inception reminded me of the exciting truth about entrepreneurship: If you believe in an idea, develop that idea, and get others to believe in it, you have something. All those analytics, marketing plans, forecasting figures, finances, degrees, experts, are not obstacles, but a set of tools designed to allow your ideas to change the world.

It is an exciting world where anyone can rise up and offer something life-altering to the rest. Always remember the idea that took you this far or that has you thinking about starting up and remind yourself that it is all it really takes to create something amazing. Think of every product you used today and I’ll show you the person who’s idea brought it to the world. Don’t let your idea get away, let it grow and form within you until one day, you release it and change the world.
